Mysterious Lights & Daytime Frights

Today’s Weird Words report is brought to you from the chimney of my home, where I am now stuck. I was awoken at 6:02am this morning by a bright orbital light in my room; I crept out of bed, as to not scare it, and proceeded to follow it around as it ominously floated throughout my home. The orb then made a dash up my chimney - I chased in pursuit, and ended up stuck.

While I wait for help to get me down, let me tell you all about the history of mysterious lights.

For centuries, people have seen mysterious orb shaped lights - under the sea, over marshes, and in their homes. We’ve had many names for them; UFOs, fireballs, spirits of the dead, will-o-the-wisps and more - but they’ve all been described as thus:

  • Bright white light

  • Floating Orb shaped balls

  • Pulsating

  • Dangerous to touch

What has not been determined exactly is the cause of them, why they come, and what they’re made of. The general consensus is that death follows in that location after one is seen, and that the number of lights indicates how many will die. This theory is perhaps proven correct in the case of a coach load of people who spotted three orbital lights across the bridge by Golden Grove in Wales, where three days later, three men died in a boat accident.

As I write this for you now, I am filled with uncertainty. I am not one to fear the unknown, the strange and uncanny, but trapped inside my chimney as I am, I fear the worst - was the light I saw my harbinger of death?
